The names of former Carleton men's basketball coach Jack Thurnblad and his wife Jinny recently were honored with the dedication of a new scoreboard and playing floor in the school's West Gym.

Jack Thurnblad, who coached at Carleton from 1960 to 1984 while also serving on his alma mater's physical education, athletics and recreation faculty, met Jinny White while both were students at the school during the late 1940s. They married two days before her graduation in 1948.

He also served as athletics director from 1970 to 1984 and remained at the school until his retirement in 1989. He chaired the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee in 1978-79.

Jinny Thurnblad has devoted numerous hours of time to volunteering for Carleton activities and supporting the school's student-athletes.

The new scoreboard and playing floor were dedicated in the Thurnblads' honor during Carleton's February 2 men's basketball game against St. Thomas (Minnesota).
