Division III Rewind
• The Division III Presidents Council is moving forward with plans to ensure that presidents of member institutions play a leadership role nationally in upcoming discussions about issues related to membership growth. The first product of that effort will be a series of “white papers” about specific issues, which are intended to equip presidents to lead philosophy-based discussions about the best ways to address growth-driven differences among Division III members over those issues.
• The Presidents Council also will cosponsor a proposal for the 2009 Convention to require coaches to be certified in first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and use of an automated external defibrillator. It is one of seven proposals that the Council will sponsor at the Convention.
• The Presidents’ Athletic Conference and Middle Atlantic Conference will play a two-year “PAC-MAC Football Challenge Series” beginning in 2010. All MAC football-playing schools and eight of the nine football-playing PAC institutions (excluding Thomas More) will face off during the second week of each football season (September. 11, 2010, and September 10, 2011).
• More than 20 administrators and coaches representing Division III institutions will begin service September 1 on sports committees that have responsibilities either within the division or across the Association.
The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference resumed operations in its downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa, office this week -- nearly two months after late-spring flooding forced the staff to evacuate.
