Division III Rewind

Following is a summary of Division III news for September 15-19:

• Championships travel costs rose 7.5 percent in Division III last year and 43 percent over the last three years, and the membership is reviewing travel-related issues.

Baldwin-Wallace will dedicate Tressel Field at George Finnie Stadium September 20 in recognition of members of the Tressel family, including former Yellow Jackets coach Lee Tressel and his son, current Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel.

• Recent McMurry track and football standout Jim Bob Bizzell – whose left leg was amputated below the knee last year following a motorcycle accident – claimed two silver medals in sprint events at the Paralympic Games in Beijing. He also was a member of a U.S. gold medal-winning relay team.

•  Bethany Lutheran will elevate its club programs in men’s and women’s cross country to varsity status in 2009, meaning that all eight of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference’s member schools now are committed to sponsoring the sport.
