Glen Van Wieren became the sixth coach in Division III men's basketball to reach 600 victories when Hope College defeated Olivet College January 12.

The victory was marked by fans and cheerleaders holding up signs saying simply "600" and with players presenting their coach with a celebratory cake, after the Flying Dutchmen withstood a late rally to win, 80-71.

Van Wieren reached the milestone faster than any of the five previous coaches with 600 wins, and his .749 winning percentage through 31 seasons is the best of the group. Glenn Robinson, who is in his 37th season of coaching at Franklin & Marshall College, leads the division's men's coaches with 726 victories entering last night's game at Haverford College.

Incidentally, Robinson's team reached a milestone of its own recently, when the Diplomats played their 2,000th varsity intercollegiate game. Franklin & Marshall won the game at Swarthmore in overtime.
