For the 22nd time in 25 years, the Kenyon Women’s Swimming and Diving team claimed the Division III national championship, giving the college its 50th national title in the sport.

Kenyon scored 566.5 points to win its second consecutive championship, finishing well ahead of second-place Amherst, with 341. Denison, Emory and Williams rounded out the top-five team finishers.

Kaitlyn Meirs was Kenyon’s lone individual champion, winning the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16 minutes, 52.90 seconds. Brittany Hurd, Elizabeth Carlton, Alyssa Toran and Jessica Wise teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay for the Ladies.

While Meirs won the team’s only individual title, there weren’t many events where Kenyon swimmers didn’t claim all-American honors. Senior Kate Coker came in third in the 200-yard backstroke to garner the 13th all-American award of her career. Sophomore Tina Ertel was second in the 100-yard freestyle, while Tracy Menzel, Lauren Brady and Danielle Arad also turned in top-five finishes in their respective events.

Amherst’s Kendra Stern was dominant in the freestyle events, winning the 100-, 200- and 500-yard races. Stern set meet records in the 200 and 500 with times of 1:47.19 and 4:52.34, respectively. Teammate Brittany Sasser was equally dominant in the backstroke, winning the 100-yard and 200-yard events while setting meet records in both. Amherst head coach Nick Nichols was named coach of the meet for the second year in a row.

Washington and Jefferson’s Kaitlyn Orstein won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events and set a meet record in the 200-yard individual medley. Other individual winners included Emory’s Ruth Westby (50-yard freestyle), TCNJ’s Ava Kiss (100-yard butterfly), Middlebury’s Marika Ross (200-yard butterfly) and Williams’ Amanda Nicholson (400-yard individual medley). Tufts’ Kendall Swett won the one-meter and three-meter diving events.
