Martinez reclaims softball mark, adds another
Jennifer Martinez quickly reclaimed one softball record she surrendered recently and added another for good measure when she pitched St. Joseph’s (Long Island) to a win over New Jersey City last Wednesday.
She again holds the Division III record for most strikeouts in a game of any length after mowing down 24 batters in 11 innings -- topping the 23 that Sara Bowen of Rhodes struck out in a 13-inning game earlier this spring. She also now owns the division’s single-season strikeouts record, after surpassing the five-year-old record of 375 strikeouts held by Plymouth State’s Kim Jeffs.
Martinez now holds four Division III records. Her 21 strikeouts in a regulation seven-inning game last year and her 2006 season strikeout ratio of 15.17 also are Division III bests in softball.
