Milestones: Marymount, Wittenberg, Wilkes
Basketball coaches at Marymount (Virginia), Wittenberg and Wilkes recently posted milestone victories.
Marymount's Bill Finney benefited from a stellar defensive effort by his women's team, which held Wesley to 34 points Wednesday, in collecting his 500th career coaching win. Finney, whose teams have claimed 10 Capital Athletic Conference titles during Marymount's 17-year affiliation with the league, is in his 25th season at the school, where he also serves as athletics director.
Wittenberg's Bill Brown, midway through his 21st season of coaching at Division III schools, earned his 400th career victory in the Tiger men's February 2 victory at Hiram. Brown, a Wittenberg graduate who coached at Kenyon and Wooster before taking the reins at his alma mater 15 years ago, has led the Tigers to nine Division III Men's Basketball Championship appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2006.
Men's coach Jerry Rickrode earned his 300th win when Wilkes defeated Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham January 30. Rickrode is in his 16th season at the school.
