Montclair State, St. John Fisher coaches notch milestone wins
Montclair State baseball coach Norm Schoenig and St. John Fisher softball mentor Len Maiorani recently claimed milestone coaching victories.
Schoenig, who twice has coached Montclair State to Division III baseball titles, collected his 600th win last Friday when the Red Hawks defeated William Paterson. Maiorani notched his 500th victory April 12 against Elmira.
It was a big week in the milestones department for Montclair State, as the team also claimed the 1,400th win in program history the day before Schoenig’s achievement.
Schoenig has led Montclair State to 15 Division III Baseball Championship appearances -- including seven regional titles and national titles in 1993 and 2000 -- as well as five New Jersey Athletic Conference crowns.
Maiorani’s milestone win came during a doubleheader sweep that saw St. John Fisher cap a recovery from a 1-9 start this season to reach the .500 plateau.
He took the Cardinals’ reins 14 years ago after serving for five years as head coach at Brockport State.
