Champions in the American Southwest Conference during 2008-09 will celebrate victory in T-shirts designed by a recent Hardin-Simmons baseball player.
R.C. Waters, a sports information graduate assistant at Hardin-Simmons, submitted the winning design in the conference’s third annual T-Shirt Design Challenge. The winner is decided by a vote of the American South Conference’s student-athlete advisory committee.
Waters, a utility infielder at Hardin-Simmons last spring, submitted a design that incorporates logos from all 15 member schools within the conference’s seal.
“I’ve seen other designs on T-shirts before where the names and logos of all the teams in a league appear, and I really like that,” he said. So I put all of our schools’ logos together in one to give a twist to it.”
The design, which also honors wearers as 2008-09 champions, will be presented immediately upon winning a league championship. The back of the shirt will designate the specific sport.
The first shirts will be awarded next Thursday, at the ASC cross country championships.
Waters received a bachelor’s degree in art education last spring and now is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports and recreation management. He was a three-year letter winner in baseball at Hardin-Simmons.
