Wofford named Ralph Polson head men’s soccer coach. Polson spent the past eight seasons as associate head coach at College of Charleston. He also was the head coach at Presbyterian for 17 years.
Other transactions
Director of athletics – Lori Kerans announced her resignation as director of athletics at Millikin, effective June 30. Kerans will remain as coach of the women’s basketball program.
Associate director of athletics/SWA – Concordia selected Kathy Gebhardt as its senior woman administrator. Gebhardt will remain in her position as the university’s head women’s volleyball coach and head of its CHAMPS program.
Football – Jim Bickel was named head coach at Capital. Bickel served as associate head coach and defensive coordinator with the program for the past seven seasons. A graduate of Denison, Bickel began his career as an assistant at his alma mater, where he remained for 21 seasons … Buffalo signed Turner Gill to a contract extension that will keep him as head coach through 2012.
Football assistants – Tennessee selected Dave Clawson as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. As head coach at Richmond, Clawson led the Spiders to their best season in school history in 2007 … Simpson added Joe Beschorner, Mike Cordes and Kevin Ferguson to its staff.
Men’s and women’s volleyball –Katie Charles was tabbed to lead the Kenyon women’s program. Charles, who was a member of Juniata’s 2004 national champion team, worked last year as director of volleyball operations at Georgia. She also worked as an assistant at Endicott and Dartmouth.
