Bill Rowe has announced his retirement as director of athletics at Missouri State, effective in June 2009. Rowe – who has been affiliated with the school for more than 50 years as a student-athlete, coach and administrator – plans to continue working in another way (not yet known) after completing his 28th years as athletics director. Rowe coached baseball from 1963 to 1982, when he became athletics director during the school’s reclassification from Division II to Division I. He is a former chair of the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and served on various other Association committees, recently including the Division I Baseball Issues Committee.

Other transactions

Women’s basketball – Marcus Heidorf named head coach at Lawrence after serving as an assistant at Alverno. He also has assisted at Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Women’s basketball assistants – George Libbon, Brianna Finch and Audi Spencer hired at UC Irvine, which also announced the appointment of Julia Smith as director of basketball operations … Jason Marshall joined the staff at Army.

Men’s and women’s track and field assistant – Eli Sunquist hired at East Tennessee State after two years on the staff at Charlotte.


Strength and conditioning – Andrew Carter hired as strength and conditioning coach at Campbell after three years at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in Virginia. He was head strength and conditioning coach for two years for the U.S. women’s national lacrosse team and has assisted at Notre Dame and Delaware.
