INDIANAPOLIS---The National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Committee announced today the field for the fourth Women's Frozen Four to be hosted this year by Yale University and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), March 26 and 28, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
The four-team field consists of the top seed from the East and West regions and two at-large teams.
The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (28-4-2), the Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season and tournament champion, is the top seed in the championship and will face No. 4 seed Dartmouth College in the 5 p.m., March 26, semifinal game. Dartmouth is one of three ECAC teams in the championship field and owns a 24-6-2 record. The teams played twice at Minneapolis, Minnesota, in February and split victories.
Harvard University (29-3-1), the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will face ECAC co-regular season champion, St. Lawrence University (27-9-1), in the 8 p.m. semifinal game on March 26. It will be the second time the teams have played in a week. Harvard defeated St. Lawrence in the conference championship game, 6-1. The teams have faced each other three times already this season, and the Crimson won all three battles.
The winners of each semifinal will meet for the national championship 4 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, March 28. A third-place game will be contested to start the day at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time.
There will be a new NCAA Women's Frozen Four champion this year. Three-time defending champion, University of Minnesota Duluth, did not make the field.
The semifinal games and the championship game will be played live on CSTV. For more information regarding the National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship, log on to the World Wide Web at www.ncaasports.com.
