INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Women's Water Polo Committee has announced the teams that will participate in the 2004 National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship.
The championship will be held May 8-9 at the Avery Aquatics Center, Stanford, California. Stanford University will serve as the host institution.
The 2004 National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship will be a four-team, single-elimination tournament (four games), with a losers' bracket to determine places three and four.
University of Southern California (27-0) will face Hartwick College (33-8) in the first game of the championship, followed by Loyola Marymount University (24-5) and Stanford University (20-4) in the second game.
The following conferences and institutions received automatic qualification: Collegiate Water Polo Association, Hartwick; Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Southern California; and the Western Water Polo Association, Loyola Marymount. Stanford received the at-large bid.
This is the fourth National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship. In the 2003 championship game, the University of California, Los Angeles earned its second title in three years defeating Stanford 4-3.
