INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Committee has announced that the United States Naval Academy will serve as host of the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship. The semifinals and final will be played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, May 20 and 22, 2005.
"The U.S. Naval Academy is delighted and honored for the opportunity to administer this prestigious event for the NCAA and the lacrosse community. We hope our city eventually becomes the lacrosse capital of the nation," said Chet Gladchuk, director of athletics at Navy. "The academy staff will extend every effort to make this the finest and most successful NCAA women's lacrosse championship ever."
This will be the fifth time in eight years that the state of Maryland has hosted the Division I championship. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County, hosted the championship in 1998, Johns Hopkins University hosted in 1999 and 2001, and Loyola College (Maryland) hosted the event in 2002. Other hosts in that time period included The College of New Jersey (2000), Syracuse University (2003) and Princeton University (2004).
