NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee Selects 2004 Regional Sites

INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee is pleased to announce the following sites for regional competition of the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championships: The Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky; the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bank America Arena in Seattle, Washington, and the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The University of Louisville; University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; University of Washington; and University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, will serve as hosts for regionals, which will be held December 9-10, 10-11 or 11-12.

"We are excited to be selected as one of four regional site hosts for the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship," commented Joel Maturi, director of athletics at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. "It goes without saying that our staff takes great pride in playing host to NCAA championships. Coach Mike Hebert has done a fantastic job of building one of the top volleyball programs in the nation, culminating with our first-ever appearance in the NCAA semifinals this past season. We also have a knowledgeable and loyal volleyball fan following that will once again step up and enthusiastically embrace this championship."

"We are excited that the University of Washington has been selected as one of the four regional sites for the 2004 NCAA championships," comments Jim McLaughlin, head volleyball coach. "We are pleased the committee recognizes the growing support for women's volleyball not only in Seattle but throughout the state of Washington. It is clear that interest in women's volleyball is increasing at all levels and this wonderful event will only foster that growing interest. Our events staff is outstanding and will do a great job hosting this event. In fact, I am confident that the whole community will help make this event a tremendous success and prove to the NCAA that it made a wise choice in selecting our university to host one of the regionals."

The 2004 championship will be held in Long Beach, California, at Long Beach Arena, December 16 and 18. The 2005 championship will be held in San Antonio, Texas, at the Alamodome, December 15 and 17. The 2006 championship will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the Omaha Convention Center and Arena, December 14 and 16. The 2007 championship will be held in Sacramento, California, at ARCO Arena, December 13 and 15.

The University of Southern California captured the 2003 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
