NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S SOCCER COMMITTEE REPRIMANDS EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA STUDENT-ATHLETES

INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee has reprimanded two student-athletes from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, Kamar Samuels and Jorge Chapoy, for unsportsmanlike behavior during the second-round game of the 2003 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. The committee also has banned the East Stroudsburg men's soccer team and head coach Jerry Sheska from participation in the 2004 championship.

Specifically, Samuels struck an opposing player with the ball while the ball was out of play pending a throw-in. Samuels was shown a red card and ejected for violent conduct, but as he left the field he made physical contact with an official. Chapoy verbally dissented the official's ejection of Samuels, drawing a red card and an ejection from the official. Before Chapoy left the field, he made physical contact with an official as well. The official suspended the match and play did not resume.

"The committee was very disappointed in this behavior and strongly believes that the championship should not be tarnished by such acts," said Gavin D. Donaldson, chair of the Division II Men's Soccer Committee and head men's soccer coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College. "These types of actions only serve to discredit the individual, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship."
