INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Committee has selected First Arena in Elmira, New York as the host site for the 2006 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship; Wessman Arena in Superior, Wisconsin as the host site for 2007 and the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York as the host site in 2008. These selections have been approved by the Division III Championships Committee and the Division III Management Council.
Elmira College will serve as the host institution for the 2006 championship and will be held at the First Arena, home of the United Hockey League's Elmira Jackals. The University of Wisconsin, Superior will host the 2007 championship on campus at Wessman Arena. The State University of New York, Potsdam and the Olympic Regional Development Authority will serve as co-hosts of the 2008 championship at the Olympic Center, site of the 1980 Winter Olympic Games.
"The committee is extremely excited about the selection of these three sites," said Russ Reilly, chair of the Division III Men's Ice Hockey Committee. "The predetermined site for our championship is a new step for Division III men's ice hockey and these sites have demonstrated a commitment to helping it become a success. It is the committee's hope that the predetermined site will help to further develop the great fan base that exists for Division III ice hockey."
The 2005 championship will be held on the campus of one of the participating semi-finalist teams. The selection of participants will be on March 6 with first-round competition on March 9. Quarterfinals will be on March 12 and the semifinals and finals will be on March 18 and 19.
