INDIANAPOLIS---The Division II Presidents Council has moved forward in its efforts to enhance the visibility of its student-athletes and the image of the division, supporting the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) $6 million corporate sponsorship initiative and a coaches intern program that will increase opportunities for women and ethnic minorities who want to become head coaches.
Members of the Division II CCA provided the presidents with details of the Division II sponsorship initiative, which is currently being marketed to corporate sponsors. The plan includes development of a weekly syndicated television show that will be broadcast in regional markets throughout the United States, and provide highlights of Division II sports, student-athlete accomplishments, scores and other news of national of interest. At least 235 Division II member institutions and 22 of its conference offices have committed to the initiative. Member institutions would support the plan with on-campus signage, public service announcements, radio advertisements and other media resources.
Revenue generated from the Division II corporate sponsorship initiative will be split among the Division II colleges and universities that participate in the program and the CCA, which will use funding for conference scholarship programs, conference initiatives and activities, such as its annual basketball classic, and general operating expenses surrounding the corporate initiative.
The program will not conflict with the NCAA bundled rights agreement as the Division II corporate sponsorship initiative is limited to the regular season and will not involve NCAA marks, nor interfere with corporate rights associated with NCAA postseason championships.
"The presidents are very excited about this conference-driven initiative," said George Hagerty, chair of the Division II Presidents Council and president of Franklin Pierce College. "We believe this initiative will help enhance Division II
