"The NCAA enforcement staff has been made aware of comments made yesterday by Mr. Charles Coe, head football coach at Alabama State University, in which he said he was unaware that his interview with the NCAA was tape recorded. Coach Coe also said that he believed a memorandum summarizing the taped interview was inaccurate and misleading."

"Coach Coe's comments are in error. NCAA enforcement staff has reviewed a copy of that interview and found that Coach Coe was informed, at the beginning of the taped interview, that the interview was being taped with his consent. On the tape, Coach Coe acknowledged the taping without objection. In addition, NCAA enforcement staff has again reviewed the tape and found that the memorandum summarizing it is an accurate portrayal of the interview."
