INDIANAPOLIS---"The Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee reviewed the appeal of Jeremy Bloom of the University of Colorado, Boulder, and determined that his athletic eligibility should not be reinstated."
"The Bloom case is one of the few cases where the severity of the violation, the importance of the amateurism bylaw and the level of culpability are so significant that reinstatement would have violated the principles NCAA colleges and universities set forth in the bylaws."
"Violations of NCAA amateurism bylaws are among the most serious because amateurism is the principle that separates college sports from professional sports. Inclusive in the principle of amateurism is the express prohibition of endorsements by student-athletes. In this regard, the NCAA member institutions have both a long history and recent history of supporting the bylaws that prohibit endorsements by current student-athletes."
Note: The Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee is comprised of athletics administrators selected by Division I conferences and confirmed by the Division I Management Council.
