Statement from NCAA President Myles Brand on Hiring and Firing of College Head Football Coaches

INDIANAPOLIS---"It is the season for firing and hiring head college football coaches. Recent dismissals have left Division I-A with only two African-American head coaches, an unacceptable number given the strong talent pool available. It is more important than ever that this year's searches are conducted in a way genuinely open to all qualified candidates, including African-Americans. I urge all Division I-A programs that will be involved in searches to undertake a hiring process that identifies a diverse pool. The Black Coaches Association (BCA) has a good list of potential candidates available."
