INDIANAPOLIS--As part of the NCAA’s “Home Team” partnership with Habitat for Humanity® International, national office staff will assist with refurbishing a home for an Indianapolis family, Tuesday-Wednesday, November 15-16.
National office staff will work on the home, located at 804 West 26th Street, from 8 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. each day. About 50 staff members are expected to take part over the two-day period.
The “Home Team” partnership, announced in September, will raise funds and provide volunteer labor to assist with long-term rebuilding efforts in the hurricane-impacted areas of the Gulf Coast.
The partnership includes a $1 million lead gift from NCAA Division II and a matching gift of $500,000 from the NCAA national office. The NCAA will promote Habitat for Humanity® hurricane-rebuilding efforts at all 88 national championships through customized promotional plans.
The NCAA also will work with various Habitat for Humanity® programs to mobilize the NCAA’s national Student-Athlete Advisory Committees in all three divisions and member coaching associations to help provide volunteer support to build houses with families in need of decent, affordable housing.
Student-athletes, college and university coaches, athletics administrators and NCAA national office employees could all assist in building houses with families in hurricane-affected areas through Collegiate Challenge, Habitat for Humanity®’s alternative spring break event, and through local Habitat for Humanity® affiliates across the nation.
While planning is underway to help the Gulf Coast, national office staff wanted to assist with projects in their own community.
