INDIANAPOLIS---For the third consecutive year, all 88 NCAA championships will receive national television exposure, including 17 spring championships to be featured in a one-hour special.

“CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA” will air at 5 p.m. Eastern time/2 p.m. Pacific time Saturday, July 2, on CBS Sports. Highlights and stories from baseball, golf, rowing, softball, tennis, and track and field will be featured during the program.

Some of the student-athlete stories to be highlighted include:

• SUNY Cortland’s Pat D’Auria returned to the baseball diamond this spring to lead the Red Dragons to a second-place finish at the Division III Men’s Baseball Championship. D’Auria played just 19 games in 2004 before being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, forcing the outfielder to have surgery to remove a blood clot in his arm. The Nyack, New York, native batted .337 with 41 RBIs in his triumphant return this spring.

• Cory and Angie Aguilar led their respective teams to consecutive Division II Track and Field Championships at Abilene Christian this spring. The married pole-vaulters are two of the nation’s best in their event while balancing the demands of parenthood.

• Armstrong Atlantic State freshman Stacy Webb passed away in a car accident this fall, only hours after posing for a team photograph. The Pirates overcame the tragedy to finish second in the Division II Men’s Golf Championships this spring, dedicating the season to Webb.

• Liz Bondi, the Chicago Sun-Times Athlete of the Year in high school, had the opportunity to play tennis at large Division I programs, but instead opted to attend Division III Depauw University in order to also play basketball and study medicine. The junior did not participate in tennis last spring in order to care for her mother, who had hip replacement surgery. Bondi, who lost her father in high school, returned to the court this spring to finish second in the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships.

Through the NCAA-CBS 11-year bundled rights agreement, CBS Sports has aired eight seasonal shows from the three NCAA sports seasons (fall, winter, spring) over the last three years. The seasonal shows typically feature highlights and unique NCAA student-athlete stories from the Division II and III championships.

Veteran CBS Sports Broadcaster Bonnie Bernstein will host the spring seasonal show from the NCAA Hall of Champions in Indianapolis. This will be the fourth time the Hall of Champions is used as the host position. Bernstein has hosted all nine seasonal shows.
