INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Committee has named the championship sites selected to host the 2008 and 2009 Women’s Frozen Four.

Scheduled for March 21-23, 2008, the University of Minnesota Duluth will host the 2008 Women’s Frozen Four at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center in Duluth, Minnesota. This marks the second time Minnesota Duluth will host the Women’s Frozen Four. In 2003, they hosted the championship and also claimed the national championship title.

"Duluth has already hosted one of the most successful Women’s Frozen Fours to date,” said Steve Metcalf, chair of the women’s ice hockey committee, Associate Athletics Director at the University of New Hampshire. “The committee is confident they will have the same success in 2008.”

Hosting in 2009, Boston University will welcome the Women’s Frozen Four March 20-22 at the Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. This marks the first time Boston U. will host the Women’s Frozen Four.

"Boston University has a long history of hockey and a fabulous new arena to host the championship,” Metcalf added. “The surrounding area is a hotbed of college hockey programs which brings forth a strong fan base.”

"The committee was excited about not only the numbers of bids we received but also the quality of those bids,” said Metcalf. “The selection for these two sites was the most difficult the committee has faced.”

The 2006 championship will be held March 24-26 at the Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities will serve as host.

Women's ice hockey is a National Collegiate Championship, meaning that eligible institutions that sponsor the sport in Divisions I and II will be considered for the championship field. The tournament includes two semifinal games Friday night and a championship game on Sunday.
