NCAA Partners with NACWAA to Host NACWAA/HERS Program for Women Athletics Administrators

INDIANAPOLIS---The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) will host two NACWAA/HERS Institutes for Administrative Advancement for women athletics administrators this summer on NCAA university campuses.

The NACWAA/HERS East program will be held June 9-14, 2005, at the Emory Conference Center in Atlanta, while the NACWAA/HERS West program will be held July 6-11, 2005, at the Inverness Conference Center in Englewood, Colorado, just outside Denver.

The NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement is in its 11th year and is one of the only skills enhancement and development programs specifically geared toward women who want to pursue careers in athletics administration. The program provides women with networking opportunities in intercollegiate athletics, leadership development, career enhancement tips, strategic and business planning tips and other resources to help them in their current roles as administrators and to help them advance in the industry.

Each year, the program speakers and presenters at the NACWAA/HERS Institutes are among the most respected administrators and officials in intercollegiate athletics. Among the many noted speakers this year are Judy Sweet, senior vice-president of championships and education services at the NCAA national office; Donna Lopiano, chief executive officer of the Women’s Sports Foundation; Joan Cronan, women’s athletics director at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Alfreeda Goff, senior associate commissioner/chief of staff at the Horizon League and president of NACWAA; Christine Grant, associate professor at the University of Iowa and former women’s athletics director at the university; and Charlotte West, former associate athletics director at Southern Illinois University and a champion pioneer for equity in athletics.

A total of 41 women and one man were selected for the NACWAA/HERS East program, while 41 women were selected for the NACWAA/HERS West program. Participants in each of the two programs include the three NCAA divisions (I, II and III).
