INDIANAPOLIS --- NCAA Division II and CSTV: College Sports Television have announced the basketball games that will be a part of their broadband and television partnership.  Division II and CSTV entered are in the first season of a multi-year television and broadband partnership that will showcase more than 80 live Division II regular-season football and basketball games.  The first games to be featured were broadcast during the 2006 football season.

The games air on CSTV, a national cable network from CBS dedicated to the coverage of college sports, and can be found at www.NCAAsports.com/DII.  In addition to live games, www.NCAAsports.com/DII powered by CSTV will feature stories, scores, blogs, video and audio that are dedicated to Division II sports, making it not only a destination site for live games, but the best way for fans to follow Division II sports.

In addition to broadcasts on CSTV, efforts are also underway to syndicate the broadcast in local markets of the teams competing. The NCAA Division II basketball games that will be broadcast this winter through television are listed below.

“The CSTV partnership has been a great success story for Division II,” said Charles Ambrose, chair of the NCAA Division II Presidents Council and president at Pfeiffer University. “It has provided the NCAA with an opportunity to ensure that more of our fans can watch Division II games regardless of their location. We’ve also been pleased to have another outlet to demonstrate our strength as a division in connecting with the community, and providing our student-athletes with a high-level athletic experience while maintaining an important emphasis on the educational goals at hand.”

The regular-season partnership is the first of its kind for Division II and was first implemented with the broadcast of football this academic season.  The arrangement provides for nine televised games (three football and six basketball) and 72 games via broadband (40 football and 32 basketball). The regular-season partnership is in addition to Division II’s extensive postseason television menu (21 telecasts in 2005 -06).

“With more college sports content available now than ever before, CSTV continues to work with the NCAA on successful initiatives that deliver new and compelling, multi-media programming to the millions of passionate college sports fans,” said Tim Pernetti, Executive Vice President, Content, CSTV.  “This landmark partnership has provided the NCAA with a new level of exposure and we’re proud to showcase the fine student athletes and pageantry of Division II sports across our network.”

The CSTV agreement, which runs through 2009, provides an amplified platform to highlight Division II contests and student-athlete accomplishments, while also promoting the intercollegiate athletics philosophy for Division II member institutions.  There are more than 74,800 student-athletes competing at 290 NCAA Division II colleges and universities nationwide.

A Division II media advisory group provided assistance in the development of the agreement and the determination of which contests would be broadcast.  The advisory group members are Charles Ambrose, president, Pfeiffer University; Clint Bryant, director of athletics, Augusta State University; Tom W. Bryant, president, Pittsburg State University; Dave Brunk, commissioner, Northeast-10 Conference; Leon G. Kerry, commissioner, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association; Jessica Kozloff, president, Bloomberg University of Pennsylvania; Michael Marcil, commissioner, Sunshine State Conference; Jane Meier, athletics director, Northern Kentucky University; Robert Nielson, athletics director, University of Minnesota Duluth; Joel R. Smith, commissioner, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference; and Ronald M. Zaccari, president, Valdosta State University.
