INDIANAPOLIS --- The NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee announced Tuesday that Debbie Primeaux Williamson has been named secretary-rules editor.

Williamson, who is currently a lecturer in the Physical Education Department at North Carolina State University, brings with her over 25 years of experience in collegiate athletics as a student-athlete, coach, administrator, official and instructor. As secretary-rules editor, Williamson will be the national rules interpreter for women’s basketball and serve as co-editor of the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Rules and Interpretations book.

“Debbie has a passion and vision for women’s basketball that will be valuable in shaping the future of our game and its rules,” said Ronda Seagraves, committee chair and associate athletics director at Southwestern University (Texas).

A student-athlete at Louisiana Tech University in the early 1980’s in both basketball and softball, Williamson helped lead the Lady Techsters to four Women’s Final Four appearances and was co-captain of the 1984 team.  Louisiana Tech won the first ever NCAA women’s basketball national championship in 1982.

"(The NCAA) could not hire a better person," Leon Barmore, Williamson's head coach at Louisiana Tech, said. "She is very bright and dedicated. When Debbie is given an assignment, I can guarantee her work will be thorough, on time and with everyone's well-being in mind.

“She is so good with working with people. I have no doubts that people will respect her and her work,” he said.

Her coaching career included being the head women’s volleyball coach at Louisiana Tech (1985-86), assistant women’s basketball coach at Southeastern Louisiana University (1986-87), and assistant basketball (1987-91) at Georgia Southern University.

From 1995 to 1998, Williamson was an instructor for health and kinesiology at North Harris Montgomery County Community College.  In 2001, she joined the staff at Campbell University as an instructor in the department of exercise science.  She remained at Campbell until 2004, when she left to join North Carolina State.

Williamson served on the officiating staffs for several conferences, including the Big South, Peach Belt, Colonial Athletic Association, South Atlantic, Carolinas –Virginia Athletic, USA South and Old Dominion Athletic. She was recently added to the Conference USA and Southern Conference staffs. She has worked in numerous NCAA tournament games, including three regionals at the NCAA Division II level.

An author of numerous publications and research abstracts in sports management, Williamson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education from Louisiana Tech in 1985, followed with a Master of Science degree in health and physical education in 1986 also from Louisiana Tech.  Williamson received a Doctorate of Education degree in 2000 from the University of Houston. She is married to Stan Williamson, athletics director at Campbell University, and is the mother of three children.
