Basketball Hall of Fame to Celebrate Sport Born in Massachusetts at State House in Boston

Newly Elected Hall of Famers to Appear at the Massachusetts State House, Birth State of Basketball, prior to Women’s NCAA Championship on April 4th

WHAT: Springfield’s Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will host a news conference to present the newly elected members of the Class of 2006 and celebrate the ‘Home State of Basketball’ hosting three NCAA Basketball Championships in 2006, including the Division I Women’s Final Four in Boston. The new members of the Class of 2006 will be revealed to the public for the first time in Indianapolis, IN, site of the 2006 Men’s Final Four just 24 hours prior to arriving in Boston. The new Hall of Fame electees will be on hand in Boston to answer questions on their prestigious honor and will be available for one-on-one interviews.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 4th, 2:30 p.m.

WHERE: Massachusetts State House, Grand Staircase
Beacon Hill, Boston, MA

WHO: One-on-one interview opportunities with the newly elected members of the Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2006 will be available. In addition, John L. Doleva, Hall of Fame President & CEO will discuss the economic impact of Basketball in the Baystate, specifically the multi-million dollar impact the Hall of Fame has had on regional tourism, attracting both the NCAA Division II and III Basketball Championships to Springfield, hosting the annual Enshrinement Weekend festivities and additional activities fueling the economic engine of the Commonwealth.

The Finalists for election to the Class of 2006 are highlighted by former NBA stars Charles Barkley, Joe Dumars and Dominique Wilkins, contributors David Gavitt and Dick Vitale and University of Connecticut Women’s Coach Geno Auriemma.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2006 Enshrinement Weekend ceremonies will be held September 7-9, 2006 in Springfield, Massachusetts, home of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
