NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee Selects 2006 Regional and 2008 and 2009 Championship Sites

INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee is pleased to announce the following sites for regional competition of the 2006 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championships: The Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida; the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii; Gregory Gym in Austin, Texas; and the Bank of America Arena in Seattle, Washington. The University of Florida; University of Hawaii, Manoa; University of Texas at Austin; and University of Washington will serve as hosts for regionals, which will be held December 8-9.


"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring our regional championships to these four outstanding sites. The volleyball committee felt this year's selections were capable of enhancing the student-athlete experience through the excitement and enthusiasm of their fans as well as take the regionals to the next level,” commented Kelly Andrews, chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee and associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at the University of Toledo.


The committee is also pleased to announce sites for the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championships. The Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, has been selected as the site for the 2008 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. The University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and the Omaha Sports Commission, will co-host the event, which will be held December 18 and 20. The St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa Bay, Florida, has been selected as the site for the 2009 championship. The University of South Florida and Tampa Bay Sports Commission will co-host the event December 17 and 19.


"Landing the 2008 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship is a testament to our community and their appetite for good collegiate sports," said Roger Dixon, president/CEO, Qwest Center Omaha. "The people in Omaha and throughout the state of Nebraska have been loyal supporters of volleyball, and we are proud to be part of the cooperative effort responsible for bringing the 2008 event to them."


"We could not be more elated to serve as host for the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship," said Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. "We look forward to welcoming all of the student-athletes, coaches and fans for the event's first-ever trip to the Sunshine State in December of 2009."


The 2006 championship will be held in Omaha, Nebraska, at the Qwest Center Omaha, December 14 and 16. The 2007 championship will be held in Sacramento, California, at ARCO Arena, December 13 and 15.


The University of Washington captured the 2005 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship.
