INDIANAPOLIS --- The NCAA Office of Diversity and Inclusion has formed a strategic planning committee comprised of university presidents, athletics directors, conference commissioners, coaches, sports officials, and student-athletes to discuss and strategize on diversity and inclusion issues occurring within the NCAA structure, which includes its member colleges and universities.

The specific charge of the strategic planning committee is to identify strategies and recommendations that will enable the NCAA to foster the diversity of student-athletes; promote a climate of inclusion within intercollegiate athletics; enhance equitable career opportunities for underrepresented coaches, officials and administrators; and strengthen the support, integration and promotion of women's sports within intercollegiate athletics.

"The committee members are intent on working collaboratively with the NCAA membership to implement a strategic planning process that will proactively address key issues and transform challenges into opportunities of significantly increased diversity and inclusion for student-athletes, coaches, administrators and officials," said Charlotte Westerhaus, vice president for diversity and inclusion at the NCAA national office, who will chair the Diversity Leadership Strategic Committee.

"This is a very important initiative for the NCAA national office and member institutions," said Andy Geiger, vice chair of the NCAA Diversity Leadership Strategic Planning Committee and former director of athletics at The Ohio State University.
