INDIANAPOLIS
--- The NCAA continued to advance its new media initiatives Friday with
the release of the 3-Minute Drill, a video broadcast that spans the
world of intercollegiate athletics.
The
initial broadcast was released February 16. The program will air every
two weeks, although an expansion to a weekly format is anticipated soon.
With
a stopwatch on the left corner of the screen that counts down from
three minutes, the fast-paced lineup will incorporate material from all
three divisions within the allotted time.
“We’re
excited about this new program,” said David Pickle, NCAA managing
director of publishing. “This gives us a fresh way to provide
information about the Association directly to our membership and to the
public.
The NCAA launched its new media efforts in November 2005 with the creation of the Double-A Zone (www.doubleazone.com),
the official blog of the NCAA. The Double-A Zone started by offering a
daily post with commentary about specific Association issues and has
developed into a public forum that features weekly podcasts with NCAA
President Myles Brand, frequent posts from student-athletes and
coaches, live blogging from NCAA campuses and a daily look at college
sports news.
The
3-Minute Drill is the Association’s latest foray into new media and
will be hosted on NCAA Online, as well as on the Double-A Zone.
Information
for each broadcast is compiled from several sources. Stories for the
program, along with photographs and video clips, will be solicited from
the NCAA membership.
“When
athletics administrators see what we can do through this technology,
they’re going to want to get on board. If they send us a clip of a
game-winning goal or a photograph of student-athletes performing
community service, we will certainly consider it for the 3-Minute
Drill,” Pickle said.
All submissions for the 3-Minute Drill can be sent to Josh Centor, NCAA coordinator of new media communications, via e-mail at jcentor@ncaa.org.
The next broadcast is scheduled for March 1.
