INDIANAPOLIS
--- For the fifth consecutive year, all 88 National Collegiate Athletic
Association championships will receive television exposure, including
16 spring sports to be featured in a one-hour special.
“CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA” will air at 1:30 p.m.
Eastern time/10:30 a.m. Pacific time Sunday, July 1, on CBS Sports.
Highlights and stories from golf, rowing, softball, tennis and outdoor
track & field will be featured in the program. For the 2006-07
academic year, CBS Sports has featured 41 of the NCAA’s 88
championships in the three seasonal shows.
Some of the student-athlete stories to be featured in the program include:
- Stephanie
Zweig, a sophomore from Plattsburgh State University of New York, was
born with Erb’s Palsy, leaving her with only one healthy arm. The
one-armed pitcher displays her perseverance every time she steps onto
the softball field.
- Bert Green of McMurry University
returned to college after an 11-year professional baseball career and
looks to lead his 4x100-meter relay team to victory.
- Matt
Seeberger of the University of California, Santa Cruz swept the NCAA
Division III Men’s Tennis Championships as a sophomore capturing the
team, single and doubles titles. He looks to repeat the feat again this
year.
- In March, the University of Virginia’s
Chrissie Monaghan almost died in a bike accident. She was on life
support and suffered head trauma. Through hard work and determination
she worked hard to get back and row in the varsity 4-boat.
- Junior Kelly Will, who suffers from Diabetes, hopes to lead her Washington and Lee
University tennis team to their first team title, after finishing second in three of the last four years.
Through the NCAA-CBS 11-year bundled rights agreement, CBS Sports has
aired 14 seasonal shows from the three NCAA sports seasons (fall,
winter, spring) over the last five years. This Sunday’s show is the
15th edition. The seasonal shows typically feature highlights and
unique NCAA student-athlete stories from the Division II and III
championships.
CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson will serve as the host of “CBS Sports
Presents Championships of the NCAA.” This is the second seasonal show
that Wolfson has hosted. Since 2004, she has served as the lead
sideline reporter for CBS Sports' coverage of college football. In
addition, Wolfson serves as reporter for the Network’s coverage of the
NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, tennis, auto racing and
skiing. This spring’s highlight show (CBS Sports Presents Championships
of the NCAA) was produced by Deb Boulac.
Steve McKee and John Paquet served as feature producers.
