INDIANAPOLIS --- The NCAA announced Monday that the 2007 Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be broadcast live on CSTV, marking the first time the championships will be seen on live television.

“The 2007 Division I championships will be historic because of the live coverage,” said Mark Bockelman, NCAA assistant director of championships. “The NCAA is committed to creating ways to make our championships exceptional for our student-athletes and fans.

Adding live television coverage is an exciting step in reaching that goal and in promoting collegiate cross country.”

The championships will be held at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center and be hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, November 19. The men’s race will start at Noon Eastern time, with the women’s race to follow. The 2007 championship will be the fourth straight held by Indiana State.

"Indiana State University and the City of Terre Haute are proud to host the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships again this year,” said Ron Prettyman, Indiana State University Director of Athletics. “The athletics department and the hundreds of volunteers are looking forward to working together again to ensure that this will be the best cross country championship yet. The live telecast in coordination with CBS Sports and CSTV will enhance the championship and provide a showcase for the finest collegiate student-athletes at the premier cross country course in the nation".

CBS Sports, the broadcast rights holder for the championship, worked with the NCAA and the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) to combine funding to provide this first of its kind opportunity.

“Live television coverage of the cross country championships is an incredible enhancement to the championship experience for our student-athletes and teams competing for a national title,” said Sam Seemes, CEO of the USTFCCCA. “In addition to providing unparalleled exposure for cross country, live television will introduce one of the NCAA’s greatest team sports to the general public.”

University of Colorado, Boulder is the defending men’s team champion, while Stanford University is the two-time defending champion on the women’s side.
