INDIANAPOLIS---Ron English, a 22-year veteran of athletics administration, has accepted the position as the Director of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. He will officially begin his duties on October 15.

English, who has served the Ohio Valley Conference for the past 15 years, most recently as senior associate commissioner for operations and chief operating officer, will direct game operations for all rounds of the championship and will serve as the primary liaison for tournament managers at each site.

A Detroit native, English was the tournament manager for first- and second-round games in Nashville in both 2000 and 2005. He also coordinated the OVC’s men’s and women’s basketball and baseball championships, and was responsible for the league’s football, basketball and baseball scheduling.

English is a graduate of Western Michigan University and began his athletics administration career in 1983 as assistant sports information director at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He moved on to the Missouri Valley Conference, where he served as director of communications and later as assistant commissioner, before joining the OVC staff. He has also served on the NCAA’s Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet.

“Having been at the OVC for 15 years, it is a bittersweet feeling to be leaving so many great friends and co-workers at the league office and at OVC institutions,” English said. “But I am honored to be joining the team at the national office that is responsible for staging one of the greatest events in all of sports. I can’t wait to get started.”
