The Competition Heats up on the Road to the Final Four

Atlanta (March 12, 2007) - Basketball fans everywhere know the road to the 2007 NCAA® Men's Final Four® culminates in Atlanta. But on Saturday, March 31, it will take a scenic detour through the streets of Georgia's capital city and originate and end at Centennial Olympic Park, one of Atlanta's most popular landmarks.


Saturday morning, before semifinal action tips off at the nearby Georgia Dome, the NCAA® Road to the Final Four® 5K will be contested through the streets of downtown Atlanta. The race, which is open to all ages, gets underway at 8 a.m. EDT on Saturday and offers participants a chance to win Men's Final Four game tickets.

Road to the Final Four 5KRunners, walkers and basketball fans who register to participate in the NCAA Road to the Final Four 5K not only will receive a commemorative race T-shirt, but will be eligible for a random drawing for game tickets following the race. Registered race participants also can use their race number for free admission to NCAA® Hoop City® Refreshed by Coca-Cola®, an interactive, family friendly fan festival held at the Georgia World Congress Center, March 31-April 2.

"The Road to the Final Four 5K allows fans an opportunity to take part in the excitement surrounding NCAA March Madness® and yet another fun way to participate in all the activities we've planned for people of all ages during Men's Final Four weekend," said Greg Shaheen, NCAA senior vice president of basketball and business strategies. "The race kicks off the day in a big way and provides a great precursor to that night's semifinal games."

Participants can register three ways, on-line, entry form or day-of registration. An $18 entry fee applies for participants who register online (www.atlanta/net/finalfour or http://www.active.com/) by 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, or by mailing their entry fee and registration form postmarked no later than Saturday, March 24. On-site registration and race number pick-up begins at 7 a.m. on race day at the fountains of Centennial Olympic Park. The entry fee for those who register on race day is $25; all checks should be made payable to the NCAA.
