NEW YORK (March 27, 2006) CSTV cameras will be courtside in NCAA Hoop City refreshed by Coca-Cola at the NCAA Final Four for the POWERade SLAMBALL CHALLENGE on Friday, March 30. The network will cover all of the non-stop action of the revolutionary sport of SlamBall, which resembles a live-action human video game that combines elements of basketball, football, hockey and gymnastics as players compete in a full-contact game aided by springs that propel players up to 17 feet in the air. The event including game action and a high-flying slam dunk competition will air on CSTV as two one-hour shows on consecutive Sundays, April 22 and 29 at 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET.
"SlamBall is an exciting sport that will deliver a terrific live event at Hoop City as well as unique and entertaining program on multiple platforms," said Tim Pernetti, Executive Vice President, Content, CSTV. "We are happy that we were able to partner with POWERade to bring this exciting event to the epicenter of basketball. Many of the leagues top players are former collegiate athletes, and we look forward to an ongoing relationship with SlamBall as we collectively build the connection between former student athletes and this tremendous game."
"POWERade will offer Final Four fans a unique basketball experience during the most exciting college sports weekend of the year," said Gloria Garrett, vice president Hydration Brands, Coca-Cola North America. "The POWERade SlamBall Challenge celebrates fun, fast-paced, game-changing plays and is sure to wow and amaze basketball fans."
The POWERade SLAMBALL CHALLENGE will take place at this years Final Four in Atlanta and include a slam dunk contest and a four-team tournament, pitting teams of current professional SlamBall players, many of whom played collegiately including David Jackson of Virginia Tech, Jelani Janisse of the University of Kansas, Anthony White of USC, and George Byrd of Virginia Commonwealth University.
"Being able to showcase SlamBall adjacent to the Final Four and on CSTV is a great opportunity for the sport, said SlamBall creator and standout player Mason Gordon. "We are always looking for innovative ways to expose new audiences to SlamBall. Whoever sees the sport is instantly hooked by the unparalleled action and athleticism of the players."
