Atlanta
(March 28, 2007)— Less than 24 hours before the 2007 NCAA® Men’s Final
Four® teams take the court for Saturday night’s semifinal action at the
Georgia Dome, AT&T in the Park will take the stage at Centennial
Olympic Park to provide NCAA basketball fans with a night filled with
exciting pregame entertainment.
Music
and basketball will abound during Friday night’s AT&T in the Park,
the opening act in The Big Dance at Centennial Olympic Park’s four-day
lineup. The stage activities get underway at 6 p.m. Eastern Time, just
hours after The Big Dance opens the gates to its ultimate—and
free—weekend fan festival.
AT&T
in the Park will entertain the Centennial Olympic Park crowd with its
lineup of activities, featuring popular musical acts Panic! at the
Disco, Helios and Illbreak, the introduction of the four finalists for
the 2007 Naismith Men’s Player of the Year Trophy presented by AT&T
and a spectacular fireworks display to culminate the evening.
Known
for its old-style circus shows, incorporating an entourage of
contortionists and dancers on stage as they perform, Panic! at the
Disco is sure to be a fan favorite during AT&T in the Park. At the
2006 MTV Video Music Awards, the band’s video, “I Write Sins Not
Tragedies” won the Video of the Year award, beating out artists such as
Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Madonna and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Atlanta-based
bands Helios and Illbreak will add some local flavor to the mix.
Rock/pop band Helios will win over the hometown crowd and NCAA
basketball fans alike by serving up an enticing mix of rock melodies in
an energizing performance at Centennial Olympic Park. The group’s
latest song, “Ready Right Now” provides an apt theme song on the eve of
NCAA Men’s Final Four. Illbreak also is sure to thrill with its heavy
guitar riffs and powerful hook-laden melodies.
Fans
also can cheer on the four finalists for the prestigious Naismith
Trophy, the winner of which will be featured on AT&T “At The Half”
during CBS Sports’ coverage of the NCAA championship game on Monday
night. WGCL-TV/CBS 46 sports anchor Gill Tyree will make the
introductions to Texas freshman guard/forward Kevin Durant, North
Carolina sophomore forward Tyler Hansbrough, Texas A&M senior guard
Acie Law IV and Wisconsin senior forward Alando Tucker during Friday
night’s All-America lineup of activities.
As a fitting
finale to the opening evening, a spectacular fireworks display
comparable to Centennial Olympic Park’s heralded Fourth of July
celebration will light up the Atlanta skyline. The fireworks take off
at 10:30 p.m., putting the perfect finishing touch on a night filled
with fun.
The Big Dance at
Centennial Olympic Park’s weekend lineup also includes Saturday’s The
Pontiac Garage, My Coke FestTM on Sunday and NCAA Championship Monday.
The weekend of festivities is sponsored by the National Collegiate
Athletic Association and its Corporate Champions AT&T, Coca-Cola
and Pontiac in conjunction with the 2007 NCAA Men’s Final
Four.
