INDIANAPOLIS --- The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved the Men’s Basketball Rules Committee’s proposal to move the three-point line to 20 feet, 9 inches effective with the 2008-09 season. The men’s three-point line shall be a contrasting color to the current three-point line. The women’s distance will remain at 19 feet, 9 inches.

“In recent years, the rules committee has conducted a great deal of research and held many discussions regarding the court markings,” said Rob Halvaks, chair for the panel and senior associate commissioner of the Big West Conference. “The panel supports this action and hopes it has the committee’s intended effect on the game.”

The panel also approved all men’s and women’s basketball recommendations, with the exception of a proposal to allow a manufacturer’s logo on either the game jersey or the game pants in men’s play. This proposal was sent back to the men’s and women’s committees for further discussion. The current rule, which allows a single manufacturer’s logo on the game pants, will be maintained for the 2007-08 season.
