In its August 20, 2008, news release and in the public report of the Committee on Infractions in the University of New Mexico case, the NCAA noted that among the charges of rules violations was academic fraud in the use of correspondence courses from Fresno Pacific University. The two reports also indicated that the use of correspondence courses from Fresno Pacific were part of the NCAA’s investigation of two other institutions and warned member institutions to be wary of similar presentations of correspondence courses from FPU.
The two reports failed to acknowledge that Fresno Pacific has fully cooperated with the NCAA in all three investigations and terminated its relationship with the contractor who the Committee found had participated in the fraud as soon as the institution was made aware of the matter. There was no evidence during the Association’s investigations that anyone other than the contractor was involved.
