INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA, in conjunction with Indiana University, will host a tribute  for former President Myles Brand on Oct. 28 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The NCAA and IU are providing friends, family and colleagues the opportunity to pay tribute to the significant leadership and vision Brand provided to higher education, college athletics and student-athletes throughout his life as an educator and executive.

The 6 p.m. Eastern event will celebrate and honor Brand’s life with guest speakers, video tributes and artistic performances. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Attendees will be invited to the tribute, and a limited number of seats will be made available to the public closer to the October 28 date.

The first university president to lead the NCAA as its chief executive, Brand died Sept. 16 from pancreatic cancer. He assumed his duties as NCAA president in January 2003, after serving as president of Indiana University from 1994 through 2002.

Brand also served as president of the University of Oregon and held several other administrative and faculty positions at a number of universities throughout his career.
