INDIANAPOLIS --- Wayne Chrebet, former Hofstra University student-athlete and 11-year NFL veteran, was named as the FCS Ambassador for the 2009 NCAA Division I Football Championship. The appointment was made by the NCAA Division I Football Committee. Chrebet will serve as the inaugural ambassador of the football championship.

“Wayne Chrebet symbolizes the character and determination of the student-athletes that comprise the FCS,” said Damani Leech, NCAA director for football and baseball. “His success at the FCS level, the NFL level, and his post-playing career are the embodiment of what student-athletes should strive for academically and athletically.”

As ambassador, Chrebet will lend his support to the championship in a number of ways, including pre-game interaction with fans, performing the pre-game coin toss and participating in the postgame awards ceremony on the field.

Chrebet received his bachelor of science degree in criminal justice in 1995 from Hofstra University. Chrebet twice led the Hofstra football team in receiving and set the single season and career touchdown marks with 16 (1994), and 31, respectively. He became the university’s first 1,000-yard receiver in 1994 and still holds the school record with five touchdown receptions in a single game. Chrebet was part of the inaugural class to be inducted into the Hofstra University Athletic Hall of Fame and his jersey was retired. Chrebet graduated second on Hofstra's all-time receptions and receiving yardage lists and went on to have an 11-year NFL career with the New York Jets. He is second in Jets history in receptions with 580 and third in receiving yards with 7,356. Chrebet currently works for Morgan Stanley and is part of the Moldaver Chrebet Farrell Group.
