INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division I Field Hockey Committee has reprimanded the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, field hockey team for failure to adhere to bench area policies at the championship event of the 2009 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. The championship was played at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC.

Specifically, the team failed to adhere to the bench area policies and procedures set forth in the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship Handbook by having more than the allotted number of people in the team bench area. This was even after being specifically reminded of the limitations on the day before the final. Because of this failure to adhere to the policies, the committee decided to issue a public reprimand to the entire University of North Carolina’s field hockey team, as well as a $300 financial penalty to the institution.

The field hockey committee was disappointed in the University of North Carolina’s field hockey team actions and expects championship policies to be followed by all institutions involved.
