INDIANAPOLIS --- The NCAA is partnering with the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) to provide member institutions and conferences with online resources to assist them with information related to environmental sustainability.

“We wanted to provide resources to our membership that will be useful and reduce costs for the campuses,” said Joni Comstock, NCAA senior vice president of championships. “We feel that AASHE will provide that real help to our member institutions in acting on their ongoing commitments to environmental stability.”

AASHE, a national membership organization focusing on sustainability in higher education, has almost 1000 members primarily in the U.S. and Canada. This includes over 700 post-secondary institutions, K-12 institutions, private and public agencies and businesses.

“AASHE is thrilled to be working with the NCAA,” said AASHE Executive Director Paul Rowland. “The ability to assist intercollegiate athletics, through the NCAA, in furthering the goals of campus sustainability gives us great pleasure.”

A number of resources will be available on the AASHE website, including Campus Sustainability Discussion Forums that will be available for online discussions of “sustainable athletics” issues. Other resources include a weekly AASHE Bulletin that will publicize sustainability solutions and developments on specific campuses, and the STARS (Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System) Program that will help campuses measure and document sustainable activities in a standard national format.

These online resources are accessed through www.aashe.org and may be used regardless of whether or not an institution is an AASHE member.
