CBS Sports To Air NCAA Winter Seasonal Championships Show Saturday, May 1

INDIANAPOLIS --- For the eighth consecutive year, all 88 NCAA championships will receive television exposure, including 16 winter championships being featured in a one-hour special.
CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA will air at 1 p.m. Eastern, Saturday, May 1, on CBS Sports. The show will feature dozens of NCAA student-athletes as they follow their dreams in fencing, women’s ice hockey, indoor track and field, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving and wrestling. For the 2009-10 academic year, CBS Sports will feature more than 40 of the NCAA’s 88 championships in its three seasonal shows.
As individuals and teams pursue their ultimate goal to become an NCAA champion, some of the feature stories include:
- The Division III Kenyon College (OH) men’s swimming and diving team looks to extend their streak of a record 30-straight NCAA swimming and diving national championships.
- University of Notre Dame fencing student-athlete Ted Hodges, who recovered from a heart transplant, returns to the championships to cheer on his teammates.
- The Texas Christian University rifle team attempts to become the first all-female team to win the NCAA Rifle Championships.
- Allison Chamberlain, of Keene State College (NH), overcomes a heart condition to compete in the 800 meter race of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
- Drury University (MO) attempts to continue its recent run of success in the Division II swimming and diving championships as sophomore Erin Dolan tries to defend her 1650 meter freestyle title after the death of her beloved grandfather, who helped raise her.
- The top-ranked and defending champion Division III Amherst College (MA) women’s ice hockey team faces off against Norwich University for the Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship.
CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson will host this edition of CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA. The winter highlight program was produced by Ryan Galvin, with Joe Zappulla, Kimani Morales and Julie Landa serving as the feature producers.
CBS Sports has aired 22 seasonal shows from the three NCAA championship seasons (fall, winter, spring) over the last seven years. The May 1st show is the 23rd edition of CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA. Each seasonal show features highlights and unique NCAA student-athlete stories from a variety of NCAA Division II and III championships.
