A recent Inside Higher Ed Report (“NCAA Debates New Rules," January 11, 2010) regarding Division III issues being addressed at the 2010 NCAA Convention this week is inaccurate.
Specifically, discussions did take place at the 2008 Convention on a possible Division III subdivision but no proposals were submitted and no votes were scheduled. Nor has there ever been a timeline for the division to consider awarding athletics related aid or re-establish “redshirting.”
The main item on Division III’s convention agenda this year is the unveiling of its Identity Initiative during the division’s Issues Forum on Friday, Jan. 15. Presidential leadership is also an important topic.
