INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA will host its annual Gender Equity Forum, which features panelists and presenters discussing complex issues and key topics that directly impact women and student-athletes in intercollegiate athletics, May 1-3 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

The three-day forum provides an opportunity for attendees to get updates on trends, relevant data, gender equity planning and key issues that could have a positive or adverse impact on women in coaching and athletics administration, and on the student-athletes they serve.  There is also an opportunity for the attendees to participate in practical advice and best practices exchanges.  Individuals who generally attend the Gender Equity Forum include athletics administrators, university officials, government officials, high school administrators, affiliate organization leaders, legal advisors, subject experts, student-athletes and NCAA national office staff.

This year’s list of speakers include Donna Lopiano, president, Sports Management Resources, LLC; Neena Chaudhry, senior counsel, National Women’s Law Center; Mariah Burton-Nelson, executive director, American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation; Janet Judge, attorney, Sports Law Associates, LLC; Jacqueline Michaels, Title IX team leader, U.S. Department of Education; Patti Phillips, chief executive officer, National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators; and Bernard Franklin, executive vice president of membership and student-athlete affairs and chief inclusion officer, NCAA.  Athletics administrators from NCAA colleges and universities and additional subject experts will also participate in panel sessions.

“The Gender Equity Forum provides the NCAA, its membership and related constituents with the opportunity to openly discuss key issues and topics that impact women and student-athletes in intercollegiate athletics,” said Karen Morrison, director, NCAA gender inclusion.  “Each year we look at bringing key subject experts to the forum and providing a broad base list of topic sessions to educate individuals and to help them be more proactive on their campuses.”
