INDIANAPOLIS---College and university fans can support their favorite team by wearing their college colors during the College Colors Day 5K on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, a race that benefits DonorsChoose.org. This year’s race will wind around the scenic White River State Park Canal, with a start and finish location at the NCAA Hall of Champions.

“This 5K is great way to raise money for an organization that provides tangible educational benefits to classrooms across America while celebrating your college or university spirit,” said David Clendenin, NCAA assistant director of corporate licensing. “DonorsChoose.org is a natural partnership for the NCAA since the academic success of our student-athletes begins with building a strong foundation during primary, middle and secondary schooling.”

In March 2011, the NCAA launched “Fund the Future,” a national campaign to support the education-based organization. The partnership aligns the NCAA’s educational mission and desire to benefit increasingly challenged academic and athletic programs in public K-12 schools across the county. DonorsChoose.org connects donors with teachers in K-12 districts across the county and encourages them to choose the projects they want to support.

Individuals can register for College Colors Day online for $20 at www.ncaa.org/collegecolorsday5k.  Registration the morning of the race begins on Aug. 27 is $25. College students and younger can register for $15. Participants will receive a t-shirt, bib, timing tag and refreshments, as well as free admission to the NCAA Hall of Champions.

Packet pick up will be at the NCAA Hall of Champions in White River State Park from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. The race will start at 8 a.m. Parking is available in the White River State Garage located directly in front of the Indiana State Museum on Washington St.

The top three overall men and women finishers will receive awards. Individuals can also participate in the team competition by indicating their favorite college team during registration. The fastest three individuals on the college team will have their finish times added together for a total team time. An award will also be given to the individual with the most school spirit.
